Most Danish citizens and companies occasionally receive payments from the public sector. These payments can be tax refunds, child subsidies, pensions, student loans, unemployment benefits, housing support or social welfare payments etc.
All payments from public institutions will be transferred directly to this account. Private enterprises are able to make payments to your NemKonto, such as your salary, insurance benefits, pension and so on.
It became mandatory to have a NemKonto via the Act on Public Payments (Act No. 1203 of 27 December 2003). The only thing the public authority needs to know about paying money to NemKonto is the person's CPR number (identification number).
The public authorities can neither withdraw money from the account nor view the account movements.
